5. Brian Wilson
A lot of people have mohawks, but you’ve got to give Wilson credit for his constantly commercial-and-character-inspiring-beard-hawk combo. He’s made himself into an icon with that look, a brand. Even now, when he’s been on the disabled list the entire season, he’s still one of the most recognizable faces in the sport.
That said, this is a hair countdown, not a facial hair one. We give Wilson points for the way the beard completes the entire look, but if the mohawk stood alone it wouldn’t stand a chance against the other guys on this list.
4. Josh Reddick
How Reddick went from this guy to this guy?
We don’t know. But the transformation has worked wonders. After being traded to Oakland in the offseason, the outfielder has turned himself into a Cali Kid in every sense of the word. He’s skinny, he’s scrappy, he’s got a flair for the dramatic. He plays with a chip on his shoulder and long locks of dirty blonde hair down past it. What I guess I’m trying to say is, he’s successfully turned into Nick Swisher circa 2006.
3. A.J. Pierzynski
Paul Konerko calls him Captain Chaos. Ozzie Guillen used to say that even his mom booed when she saw him. Nobody can forget this.
In many ways Piersynski’s white-hot hair perfectly symbolizes the sizzling nature of his character. He’s been on pro wrestling, Jerry Springer, and in the middle of many on and off-field controversies. For everything A.J., including some good quotes, watch this Sportscenter profile.
We love A.J. the way you love a great lighting storm – its unpredictability is mesmerizing, a great show. Just don’t get too close.
